I don’t usually pay attention to the ads in Facebook but don’t know what made me glance through it yesterday. “Go Dirty Girl” it says and there’s a picture of three women covered in mud. I guess my curiosity (yes, that was my thought and I’m sticking to it!) drove me to click on it and it took me to the Go Dirty Girl Facebook page and that’s when I felt this overwhelming desire to GET DIRTY!

What is “Dirty Girl”?

Dirty Girl is a 5k mud run for women of all ages and athletic abilities. Don’t worry; it’s not a “race” in the traditional sense. It is an untimed obstacle course designed to push you slightly out of your comfort zone, but only as far as you are comfortable going. Forming teams is encouraged, and so is helping your fellow Dirty Girls get through to the finish. At a Dirty Girl Mud Run you’ll find excitement, laughter, and camaraderie—as well as lots of music and even some adult beverages. It’s a day you’ll never forget.

THIS IS FREAKIN’ AWESOME! Reading it I thought “This is so ME!”

Just so you know, I will be 40 next year and been trying to come up with a memorable experience so that I can tell people that “Hey! I rocked this at 40!” At first I thought maybe running my first half-marathon or join my husband for a hike in Yosemite. As much as I want to accomplish those feats, they’re not me. I want to do something that screams ME and Dirty Girl, this is ME! It has my name written all over it! This will be my memorable experience at 40 so why not blog about it and immortalize this awesome experience to share with everyone.

I will try to keep this blog updated so you can take this journey with me. I’m not a writer so don’t expect much but I’ll do my best to keep it as interesting and fun along the way.

Training to Become a Dirty Girl

I am not in the best shape at all so I need all the time to prepare for this. Dirty Girl recommends doing some light cardio a couple times per week paired with some upper body strengthening to help get up and over the obstacles.  I will start walking today and hopefully run again. After spraining my left ankle over 8 years ago, I never attempted to run in fear that I will mess it up again but I hope to slowly gain strength and go back to running since I really enjoyed it when I was still able to do so. I also enrolled in a hip-hop class that will be starting this Saturday for cardio and maybe some biceps curl to start (sloooooow start, ok).  The hip-hop class is recorded so I hope I could share those with you too.

Wanna Get Dirty With Me?

I started a team called MUDDER LOVERS (props to my baby bro! It was his team name for the Spartan Race). So if you would like to join the BEST TEAM EVER to grace Go Dirty Girl Mud Run, here’s what you do.

  1. Click on this link to register for the event: http://www.imathlete.com/events/DirtyGirlMudRunNorCal1SanFrancisco?z=1347482832898
  2. Register as a TEAM MEMBER (early registration fee is $65 and will increase as event nears)
  3. Event is on Saturday, February 2, 2013 and select WAVE 5 – 9:00 AM when registering
  4. Select MUDDER LOVERS as the team name (yeah!!!)

Again, I’ll try to keep this blog as updated as I can and please feel free to leave comments of encouragement for me [and my team]…we will definitely need all of ‘em!

Also, there are HUNDREDS of Dirty Girl Mud Run events nationwide so check out one near you and I hope to hear your stories too.
